Religion. A meaning to....?

Religion.
(Not an attack on any religion or deity living or dead)

Some people turn to drugs. Some people drink. People even do both, often at the same time. Often these kinds of people turn to religion later in life (Tried Alcoholics Anonomous first?)

Many people 'worship' at their favourite football grounds or the latest boy~band at the local indoor arena.....

Some people even turn to organised religion....

Let's face a fact here first before the fiction starts. Just about every human being on the planet is born into some kind of 'Belief' system.' I am not going to single out any one religion and say.. "That is wrong because...."

There are far too many wrong and rights in Religion.

My religious beliefs are kept to myself. As should most peoples. But I do abhor having the Jehovahs Witnesses knocking on my door at 9-30 on a Sunday Morning.... Although invite them in, they can be amusing. Try sitting there twitching and dribbling and staring into space. Keep saying "Satan" sub~vocce at random intervals. They won't stay long the Jehovahs if you try this 'tactic' and they certainly haven't been as regular with their visits to my door.

So my view on religion. Any religion....

It is down to Morals.

There is always and often a right path to choose. And obviously, the wrong route. To assume that if you stay on the right path and never do anything wrong that you will go to some great Utopia in the sky is naive, but many gain comfort from this.

And conversely, to do a wrong thing, or to sin... Then; that's it. Eternal purgatory.

So does this not just boil down to the person's choice?

(Please note my beliefs are personal to me, I write and not only often contradict myself but sometimes play 'Devils Advocate and throw up one or two arguments for or against)

This is another way of looking at it, if you struggle with being allied with any shape of religion at all.....

Instead of living your lives based on the works of the protagonists in various well known 'religious' tomes... I think everyone is faced with moral choices everyday. As a moral person, I would hope that I take the right choices or make the right ones.

So people pray to a deity... Often for something that they want. It may be an answer to some pressing question, or guidance or a sign of some sort... (People pray, I do. Never had an answer or a sign. And if god talks to you while you are praying I suggest seeking psychiatric help :)

Praying gives a lot of people a lot of comfort. Try praying for things for other people rather than tonights lottery numbers or the latest Trainers for yourself off mummy for Christmas.

( What did people buy each other for presents before Christmas.... Posted that on my Facebook, caused a few laughs )

I believe in a good solid family upbringing. Sadly we don't all have the happiest of upbringings. It is here that we are tought our Morals. And the right and wrongs of everday life.

As you stumble through life the upbringing you had often has relevance to the moral choices that you make... (Nature or Nuture... Another subject but inter-linked)

So. What I think I am trying to get to here, is that your parents are your 'Gods.' That they are your religion, and that they transfer this on to you. We here in the West, have the choice if we want to stay into religion. Many drift out, the odd straggler drifts back into the buildings of worship.

The numbers of people attending a semi~regular meeting at a place of worship is, and has been for years, in decline.

I question the need for so many deities and suggest in todays credit crunch affected world, a slimming down of the known religions and more merging and interaction.

So I will leave that there for now, may update or rewrite a little bit of this, but for now going to publish it and read through it.

Hope it makes some sort of sense.....
