Doctor Who Christmas Special. America... Buy into this.

Dr. Who: The End Of Time. Part One.
Kind of Quatermass for the CGI generation but better.... And yes, I have watched all Quatermass. Sad?

BBC1. Christmas Day. UK. (Part Two. News Years Day)
(available via the BBCi worldwide service the day after UK transmission of THE NEXT SHOW IE the day after, 1/1/10 ALTHOUGH watch PART ONE HERE TOO!!) >> BBC WORLDWIDE HOME PAGE

In America, there are 1 million viewers of Doctor Who, or Dr Who, to be pedantically correct. Via the BBC Worldwide site. Only 1 million? I reckon that of this one million, about 99% of them must be exiled Brits, who remember being terrified by the monsters, both good and bad, from their childhoods.

It seems difficult to believe that the normally, 'easy to please' American viewing public, have seemingly not bought into Dr Who. You really should try it.

David Tennant everyones favourite Scotch Man, stars in this, Christmas special, the penultimate appearance of his stint playing the long running character of British TV legend Dr. Who.

Now I haven't watched any telly, as such, over the holiday periods... I have been too busy reading the millions of posts and links up on Twitter, between listening to music and writing bits and bats, also finding time to venture out on the iceskating rinks that are our sidewalks here in the UK at the moment... Much of the top side of the Earth is being blanketed with the white stuff... (Snow not Coke... Isn't that the same, ironically? I wouldn't know:) The Australians and the other antipodes not from the UK are basking in glorious sun. Off subject....

Back to Dr. Who....

JOHN SIMM. Brilliant character actor, and surely only a matter of time before he is huge worldwide. 'The Lakes' and the amazingly fantastic British Original drama 'Life On Mars' are already feathers in the cap for this excellently versatile actor. He plays the MASTER....

Think about that for a while. What does name that suggest to you?

The Master, all encompassing, omni-presence. Powerful, even more powerful than The American Presidents advisers.... Played by the not so tall or scary looking John Simm.... This gave me a slight worry. He plays the part brilliantly. But for the Doctors ultimate Nemesis.... THE MASTER, -(more deadly than the Daleks?) - then surely more masterful casting of a more, powerful physique, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger (also increasing American interest) or Lou Ferrigno maybe, the ex Incredible Hulk Actor. Or even, 'shudders'.... David Hasselhoff. Or Gary Coleman, ex- Diff' rent Strokes, would have put an American slant on it... I hear that the pint size actor has hit hard times lately..... Although I imagine that at this time of the year if Americans have panto, Gary Coleman would be in demand heavily... For Snow White And the 7 dwarves. Did I read somewhere about Dana out of Diff'rent Strokes turning into Snow White, or was it turning to Snow White!!!! "Whatchoo talking bout Willis?"

Casting someone as diminutive, in physical stature, certainly NOT in his acting stature, John Simm, who is amongst the best of Britain's 'Pretty Young Things Bound For Orbit'.... type actors is a brilliant coup, and he has played the master before for the current Dr Who Production team with much gusto and aplomb and does so here again. I just find myself having to suspend any belief as to him being the ultimate in adversaries, a minor and easily remedied slight glitch in my belief and reality system.... I like Sci-Fi to be plausible, but the more far fetched the better. Contradiction? Maybe....

A quick mention for the 'usually' brilliant David Harewood. Brother of part time criminal Marlon, the footballer, incidentally.
I say usually brilliant, up to now, the way he has portrayed his character, in this episode especially, has brought new meaning to the term 'hamming it up.' BAD.

I won't spoil anything for anyone who does read this blog and decides to take a punt, and watch Doctor Who, as it is actually, and not Dr Who as I pedantically pointed out at the beginning of this article..... BUT in David Tennants last appearance as Dr Who, before the *REGENERATION* or Re-birth and the emergence of the next Doctor, a certain relatively unknown, Matt Smith due to be catapulted into 'type-cast-stardom- hell'... at such an early age, this move, on a rumoured, 'longish' contract can only do his rising celebrity no harm. Nor his bank account.

So to finish. I will tune in 'LIVE' for the concluding part of this absolutely brilliant piece of Televisual magnificence to watch the sad demise of the current Dr, David Tennant. Who will now not disappear into obscurity as he has already lined up a billion and one projects for next month alone. Good luck to him. He has provided many great moments as the Dr. I hope that Dave will be OK when he retires from Dr Who and moves back to Gallifrey. Or Scotland.

Watch This now! Doctor Who: The End Of Time. Brilliant stuff.

Not the best review as such, quite tired... But I hope you enjoy some of the links and maybe learnt something new about Dr Who?

I only just watched the first part of this myself!!!!

Can't wait for part two..........
